The first time we sampled salmiak (a salt licorice flavor found across Scandinavia), we spit it out on a Copenhagen street corner! Well, that may be a slight exaggeration as we have never been to Copenhagen but it sure creates a visual doesn't it??
We admit it, though, our taste buds weren't quite prepared to be smacked with a layer of sharp and sour salt dust, then soothed by something bitter and caramel-sweet. This filled licorice with a moderately salty, soft, brown licorice filling wrapped with a stronger black licorice outside layer, and dusted with sugar is a MUST try for our licorice lovers!
